Japan? Norway? Maybe both this and that?
I present a design of a knife based on the shape of the Japanese Tanto knife. A pattern has been etched in the acid bath, referring to Alduin's Wall, featured in The elder scrolls V Skyrim, which emanates a Nordic climate.
From the beginning .. Apart from broader arguments on the process of shaping, grinding and polishing the shape of a heavy duty steel D2. The blade has been hardened in oil, then tempered to the appropriate hardness. We managed to achieve an effect in which the knife itself remains incredibly sharp, does not blunt, and it is almost a miracle to chip.
It's time to beautify. The referring method was chosen in the project for Renaissance methods of metal etching, but in more controlled conditions, although it is difficult to talk about them here, because in the case of this steel, a very strong solution with nitric acid and a long etching time had to be used. Covered with graphic French varnish, secured with a pattern, the knife went to the bathtub.
.. With this result here.
The metal has been additionally polished so as not to lose the etched patterns. Then it was decided to change the handle to a more useful one. Not wanting to use wood, as the knife was supposed to be usable and in contact with water, the choice fell on micarta with its color scheme in the direction of Nordic climates, nature, but also fantasy.
With this final result here. To this day, it pleases the eye, being in my collection, and at the same time remains extremely sharp.
