For my first art project this summer I decided to do a mural on my bedroom wall. The blue background is house paint  and the lion is done with a mix of yellow and red spray paint and black and white acrylic paint.

I started by grabbing a couple of reference photos of lions from a Google image search and figured out the light and dark areas by placing a piece of tracing paper over the printed out photos and drawing around the dark areas. The tracings were then scanned onto my computer where I converted them to vector graphics, tweaked them and assembled the multiple graphics into the final image.

The image was projected onto the prepared wall using a data projector and I traced the outlines with a pencil. The black parts of the image were masked out with newspaper and strips of masking tape which I cut with an exacto knife. I applied the yellow and red spray paint and peeled the masking tape and newspaper off the wall once it was dry. The final step was painting in the black and white spaces with acrylic paint.

This is the first project of this scale that I've ever done and also my first time using spray paint and I'm really please with how it turned out.
