STAGE DESIGN - B250 SHOW
2020 is The Beethoven year. In order to celebrate this, conductor Cristian Lupes proposed a dedicated show in the opening of Sibiu International Theater Festival.
Enthusiastic about reaching the tender age of 250, Beethoven decides to celebrate in Sibiu. They roam the city fascinated by the cultural richness and look for their imaginary friends: Egmont, Coriolanus and Prometheus. He sees a large army of people ready for something important. Two cannons prepared in the Great Square near the orchestra stage scare and fool him, suspecting that a new war is starting, especially since there is agitation all over the country, a reason to remember the imperialist exploits of his friend Napoleon.

The show featured two stages - one for the orchestra and one for the choir and piano, with a circulated path in between them.
Unfortunately, the show has been postponed because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Due to stage dimension constraints, along with the fact of having around 80 people on stage simultaneously, the set design proposal is minimal.
I opted for arranging the orchestra in an emphasized amphitheater, so that the musicians would be even more visible. From the stage ceiling, mirror panels would augment the whole image, creating a kaleidoscope, hypnotic image. The backdrop of the stage is a LED curtain.

The second stage is dedicated to the piano and the choir. Due to its utility in the Theater Festival, its stage equipment is minimal.
The second stage is linked to the main one by a secured corridor between the two. The corridor is used for the mobile platform in which the actor stays.

The show is to end with Beethoven's Wellington Ouverture, which has cannons included!
