Les paysages chinois ont été transformés par des milliers d’années d'occupation humaine. Les représentations chinoises de la nature sont rarement de simples illustrations du monde extérieur ; elles sont également la retranscription de l’état d’âme de l’artiste. Les paysages de Hong Wai expriment aussi des convictions sociales, philosophiques voire politiques.
Secret de Boudoir
Dans la série « Secret de Boudoir », à travers la dentelle de vêtements transparents, nos yeux s’ouvrent, petit à petit, grâce aux coups de pinceau et à la minutie des lignes délicatement entrelacées. L’artiste nous conduit dans un jardin secret. Hong Wai s’affranchit de toutes les barrières qui ont été érigées afin de cacher la féminité des femmes. L’artiste brise certaines traditions séculaires concernant la femme: se taire et se cacher. Ce n’est plus une femme brimée mais une femme enfin libérée qui peut vivre pleinement son humanité.
Feminine Landscape (Paysage féminin)
Cette peinture ne concerne pas uniquement la description du monde visible, elle est aussi un moyen de retranscrire le paysage intérieur de l’âme et du coeur de l'artiste. Au lieu d’utiliser l’écriture, Hong Wai préfère peindre pour jouer son propre rôle, car elle est cette femme qui vit entre Orient et Occident. Elle conjugue les aspects traditionnel et moderne de chacune de ces deux civilisations.
Moonlight (Clair de Lune)
La dernière série « Moonlight » (Clair de Lune) est un paysage de forêt éclairée par la lumière de la lune qui inspire à la fois mystère et charme. Elle exprime profondément les sentiments de l'artiste. La Lune est associée à tout ce qui est douceur et lumière. Hong Wai ne veut pas seulement peindre l'harmonie, mais aussi le sens caché de la culture chinoise. Sans nul doute, le paysage est considéré comme la forme la plus élevée de la peinture chinoise. Dans cette série, cet enchevêtrement de bois, Hong Wai nous envoûte totalement.

"By the Light of the Moon - Works by Hong Wai"
I remember Hong Wai as someone gentle who spoke little. But somehow she seemed to be unusually determined about the path she wanted to take.
In 2013, HONG Wai started the "Secret de Boudoir" series, in which she painted female intimate products, such as underwear, high heels and so on. She combined the traditional form of ink painting to exposed the consumerism of women's products in contemporary society. This tendency to breakthrough defined concepts and forms has already been present in Hong Wai's work when she was still studying in Taiwan. Her "Life in Motion" series, created in 2004 and 2005, used ink painting to depict the state of cells such as chromosomes, neurons, etc..The result was abstract in form but vivid in motion. Going back to her path of transformation in ink, all comes together so naturally.
Born in a Shanghai family and moved to Macau at the age of one, Hong Wai began to learn Chinese ink painting from the age of fourteen. It seemed that she was cultivated to follow the traditions as many other women who came from the same kind of background. But she said that actually it was her idea to learn ink painting. So since an early age, she was attracted by the oriental aesthetic of Chinese Ink Art. Later in her life she started to travel around from Macau to Taiwan and then to France. Perhaps, her rebellious genes must meet the French revolutionary soil, in order to formally sprout. Finally, the "Secret de boudoir" has evolved into “Feminine Landscape", which is no longer objects hidden in a boudoir, but a declaration of feminism in traditional Chinese ink painting.
Hong Wai explained that the composition of "Feminine Landscape" came from the Song and Yuan dynasty ink painting, such as Dong Yuan in the Five Dynasties and his famous “Realm of Non-Self”; and Ni Yunlin and Huang Gongwang in Yuan Dynasty and their approach of “The Realm of Self”. The latter focused not on the faithful reproduction of objective scene (whether overall or detailed), but on how to convey the artist's subjective concept of mind through some natural scenery and images. Hong Wai has pushed this concept vigorously, so that the landscape is no longer a landscape, but a landscape composed of female bodies. The “Self” is unscrupulous in this mysterious scene. The body wrapped in lace flower pattern is floating on the flowing ink painting of clouds, and it is illusory. The brush touches between the delicate texture and the coarse diffusing ink marks, provocative and plucking at the same time. The imagination and consumption of lust toward women that Hong Hui boldly assumed on the large rice paper, was framed and then hung on the wall. Quoting the artist herself, “In the artworks of Feminine Landscape, where female bodies were placed into the context of Chinese Ink Landscape Paintings. Emotions and sex is juxtaposed with heaven and men. It is an inner spirit to transcend the female body to merge with the harmony of men and nature.” And did all these release her deep and simultaneous worship and rebellion against those established values?
After a long period of time painting strokes of the lace pattern weaved on the paper, Hong Wai wanted to return to Nature. Her latest work, "Moonlight Series", is a removal of concept. Whether ink or landscape, she just dived right into it, using the composition of photography to freeze the elements of nature, and then slowly and leisurely, she continues to do what she likes the most: painting, by the light of the moon.

「秘謐 - 洪慧作品展」
認識洪慧早在2007年,在法國巴黎。我印象中的洪慧溫婉低調,並不多言,但看得出來,她對自己想要走的路異常地篤定。
2013年, 洪慧開始了《秘密閨房》系列,其中她用水墨描繪了一系列的女性私密用品,例如內衣褲、高跟鞋等。她結合傳統水墨的形式,描述當代社會對女性用品的消費主義,這種尋求突破的傾向,早在洪慧於台灣就學時期已經展現出來,她03、04年創作的《生命.牽動》系列,用水墨方式來描繪基因細胞如染色體、神經元等的狀態,抽象中見栩栩如生。再回到她從水墨中蛻變之路,已然是如此的順理成章。
出生於上海家庭,一歲來到澳門, 洪慧從十四歲就開始學習水墨,要成為知書識禮的女性似乎深藏於她的血脈,但洪慧表示,學水墨是自己的主意, 她自小便對深富東方美學的水墨情有獨鍾。後來她到處留學,從澳門去台灣再到法國。也許,她那反叛傳統的基因必須要遇到法國這個出產革命的土壤,才會正式的發芽生長。終於《秘密閨房》演變成了《女山水》,那不再是隱秘的閨房之物,而是女性主義於中國傳統水墨創作上的一個宣言。
洪慧解釋,《女山水》的構圖來源於宋元山水,例如五代的董源作品中的「無我之境」;元代的倪雲林和黃公望等著名的「有我之境」。後者重點不在客觀對象(無論是整體或細部)的忠實再現,而在於如何通過或借助某些自然景物、形象以筆墨趣味來傳達出藝術家主觀的心緒觀念。洪慧把這概念大力的推了一把,讓山水不再是山水,而是女性身體組成的風景。「我」在這秘境中肆無忌憚,用蕾絲花紋包裹著的肉體穿插在雲霧飄逸的水墨畫上,虛虛實實;筆觸跳躍在細緻的紋理與粗疏的水墨痕跡之間,在挑釁、撩撥。對女性情欲的一切想象與消費,就這樣被洪慧大膽地假設在大型的宣紙上,裱上再掛到牆上,引用藝術家的自我陳述:「在女山水作品中,把女性身體置入山水畫語境,把情和性與天和人並列。是一種把女性身體昇華成天人合一的山水內在精神。」這一切,有沒有釋放出她那深藏著的對那些既定價值的崇拜與反抗?
在長時間透過筆觸在紙上編織出的蕾絲花紋之後,她要回歸本然。洪慧的最新作品《月光森林》系列,就是出自她撇除觀念之後,縱身一躍不管是水墨或山水,用攝影構圖的方式把大自然的元素定格,然後慢條斯理、悠哉悠哉地繼續她本來就喜歡做的事:謐謐地,作畫。

Landscape of Mind / Emerson Kun-Sheng Wang
Chinese landscape has been transformed by millennia of human occupation since thousands years ago. Chinese depictions of nature are seldom mere representations of the external world in landscape paintings, rather the expressions of the mind and heart of individual artists. Thus those images might also convey specific social, philosophical, or political convictions.
Viewing the oeuvre of Hong Wai, it reminds us how the old society treated female as shadow of the culture. The role of female could be only hide behind the curtains without actual position. But Hong Wai is trying to break the rule of certain tradition and expectation to a woman, such as keeping silent, following the regulation of men’s world without any argument. She is still sensitive but brave, facing the old culture she has learned, but also confronting the image of female in contemporary society. Thus I would rather call her as an artist, then a “female” artist. The tern “female” is not necessary to define who she is.
Even though the Secret de Boudoir series represent symbols of womanhood into her paintings, there are more intentions to break the image and ideology of a so-called “Chinese woman”. They are more erotic from the eyes of men how to view the torso of woman probing the secret of lust. Through the lace of transparent clothing, our eyes are opened by stroke of brush, the brightness of interwoven delicate lines. Hong Wai leads us to a secret garden, where she re-recreates to challenge what we think about the boundary of society, in which we have lived without any doubt for ages.
Painting is no longer about the description of the visible world; it became a means of conveying the inner landscape of the artist’s heart and mind. The poet Li Qingzhao (1084-1155) once wrote in her poem: The songbird on the bough now wet with dew,
brings tears to my eyes with her melodious trills. It is not just a scenery but also the mental state. I believe the series "Feminine Landscape" are like the poems of Hong Wai. She uses painting instead of writing to interpret the role of herself, living between East and West, thinking of traditional and modern notions. She is eage to find the spirit balance as an artist and human being.
The latest“Moonlight series” , a moon and forest landscape with mystery and charm. It is the deepest part of the artist feelings. The moon is associated with gentleness and brightness, expressing the beautiful yearnings of the Chinese. But it reflects the romantic affairs. Hong Wai doesn’t just want to paint the harmony, but also the hidden meaning of the Chinese culture. She embodies the tradition she has since childhood, in the meanwhile, she wants to demythologize any mystery surrounding our society. In that way, she is beyond just a painter. She is an artist talking about realistic life.
Landscape is considered as the highest form of Chinese painting. It was never the realistic since ever. It is more philosophical, religious with faith and idea. Hong Wai is on the process of questing for the goal she is searching. What will lead her to find the key? The answer can be found from her works.
