"The Mice Wedding"
A Dong Ho Folk Woodcut Painting
It is a line of Vietnamese folk painting originating in Dong Ho village (Song Ho commune, Thuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh Province).
The woodblock is applied with paint and pressed on a sheet of paper like a stamp. The process is repeated with 5 different colours until the craftsman is satisfied with the painting.
Remake in Illustrator
The original painting tells a story about a mice family who bribed a cat in order to have a good wedding and not to be bothered. This satirizes those greedy rulers who specialize in harassing the people.
That was thousands of years ago. In this version, I changed it to a new story. The mice come visit the cat in the Tet Holiday. They bring gifts to happy a lunar new year and wish for best luck.
