Book Covers: Mark of the Lion Trilogy

The Mark of the Lion trilogy, by Francine Rivers, is my favorite Christian Fiction series. It is set in the time of Rome, and centers on a slave girl, a rich merchant, and a gladiator.

The symbols on each cover represents part of each book’s plot and overarching storyline. The roman coin on the front of the first novel depicts the greediness and selfishness that many of the characters have in the first book.

For this second novel in the trilogy, the Roman pillar depicts the long journey that one of the main characters undergoes throughout the novel.

For the last book in the trilogy, the swords and shield stand as a symbol for the gladiator that the book follows.

One of my personal pet peeves is when, in series, the cover design does not show what number in the series the book is. Therefore, one of my goals for this series was to show the number clearly. I decided to put the information on the spine, since that is likely what will be seen the most on bookshelves, whether in stores or at home.
