3C Culinary Chef's Creations Cookbook

This is my project for creating a simple cookbook. I really loved this project (not just because of the food) but because it is opening my range of things that I can do. I never really thought about how a cookbook is made. After completing this project I have a deeper respect for the people, time and work that goes into making a cookbook. I have taken cooking classes so I am very comfortable in the kitchen. The dish I made was the Twin Blossom Beef, which is sliced steak with a savory sauce topped with thinly sliced red peppers, green peppers and sweet onions. Served with White Jasmine rice and fresh steamed Broroccoli.
I wanted to create a dish that was easy to make and delicious. This is where my logo comes in The "3C". The"3C" stands for Culinary Chef's Creations. I wanted a simple clean design yet strong because flavor sometimes needs to be strong to acheive the right taste. Also I used a light script font to capture the fine dining experience. Just to show that fine dinning can be made at home without spending all day in the kitchen.
This brings me to my slogan for my cookbook. "Simple Made Delicious". This cookbook can be used by anyone and the recipes are easy to follow for those who live an active life or for anyone who enjoys fine dining. This is a cookbook for them, because it allows them to create a fine dinning experience in a matter of mintues so that they can return to their everyday lives.
As for the book itself, I choose to keep it simple and clean. I only wanted the logo on the front cover instead of placing an image because of branding, I wanted people to remember the logo. If I were to come up with another volume of this cookbook I would change the blue to another color but the logo will still remain the same because it will become the brand for the cookbook.
The layout for the this design is very much straight forward. It consist of the image of the dish, the total cooking time and simple directions. The page layout is easy to follow and the book size is convenient so that is does not get in the way and can be stored in a small or large place even a cabinet. It is a simple cookbook. I gave the cook just what they need to complete the dish.
I cannot take credit for all the dishes in this cookbook it was a group effort. My colleagues also made dishes and took pictures and placed thier recipes in the cookbook. After the completeion of the cook book we sat down like the last supper and ate. I really enjoyed doing this project because it open my eyes to a world of possibilities.I learned a great deal about how to tie together the programs like Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. I can now make my own cook book.
With this red I tried to use a brighter color red but still didnot feel right for this project.
The first of the covers was more red and didnot feel right. Red is a very strong color.
This is the color I ended up going with because this blue is a cool color so as not to be stressed when dealing with this cookbook. But something you would want to keep in your kitchen. The lines at the bottom was heavy for this piece so I attempted to fill in the steam from the pot to give it balance..
This is the measurements I used to input into InDesign.
This is the grid layout I created in InDesign, the black bars are the space holders. So that I can make sure everything is lined up correctly.
This is an early sketch for the logo.
Another different set, playing around with different concepts. These are more trendy and edgy.
