2008 - Despicable Me

An awesome experience. At first I've worked as Layout Artist, with Kyle Balda as Layout Supervisor. The best think is that kind of scary/exciting freedom that we had working on Layout, connected each single day with Chris Renaud and Pyer Coffin, Movie Directors.
The Movie has got over the 500.000$ at the box office and I feel so proud and so lucky of having been involved in! :)
Unfortunately I don't have the original material from the Layout part, and that's a shame, I know, because it could be so cool to have the comparison between animatic, layout and final animation.
ROUGH LAYOUT - Oct 2008 / Sept 2009

S0640 - Gru meets Vector
This is the very first sequence I've worked on, as Layout Artist.
The posing and the staging were pretty detailed as a reference for the animation. I did the Rough Lay Out, then the final Camera Polish work has been done by the Layout Lead Regis Schuller, while I was in the Animation Team.
2010 - Despicable Me - S0400 - The Pyramid
This was a very interesting sequence for me and it's the one which changed the most during the film production: actually the rough lay out absolutely didn't seem alike the final result.
What's interesting is mainly a storytelling matter: when I started to work on this huge sequence, full of cheering minions everywhere and meant to be grandiose, Gru was the one supposed to steal the Pyramid of Giza. He was at the heyday of his villain's career and that sequence was meant to slightly express his dissatisfaction in life.
Quite different huh? :)
So I followed all the evolution of this sequence, until it's final version, where Gru is rather a looser than a mighty villain. That was awesome.
The final camera work has been done by the Layout lead Regis Schuller, while I was in the animation team and the result still makes me dream after several years :)
2010 - Despicable Me - S0850 - Unicorn song
I'm kind of proud of this little sequence, 'since I made it (rough lay out) in less than two days and most of the posing suggestions and gags have been kept as animation reference. Enjoy!
