Street art meets urban design
Who we are today has its origins in street art and graffiti. Our first ever endeavor as Traffic Design was a collaborative street art festival in 2011, where our artist friends came together to paint walls, tunnels, and bridges. Back then our aim was to showcase local talent in surprising, often overlooked places around the city, and have a blast while doing so. It worked — people noticed, appreciated, and supported us in growing the festival.
As we progressed onto bigger, more significant walls, we started to give more consideration to the context in which we were creating our large-scale paintings. By designing pieces specifically to elevate and correspond with their surroundings, we hope to create thoughtful art that truly benefits its neighborhood. In a modernist city such as our hometown, Gdynia, that means taking on some of the principles of modernism — simplifying means of expression, focusing on clarity, and employing functional elements as ornaments.
Through the years we’ve had the privilege to work with talented, thoughtful artists and designers in creating more than 100 murals, most of which still remain on display today.
