Nonsense with the plugin Element 3D.
I actually did this for a little 5 second contest we do for fun at work, but since i had the footage and 3D track, then why not make a longer version? The form/shape was made from a layer mask using Element 3D, with some noise and evolution added to it. The live action is recorded with a Canon 550D with a Sigma 17-70mm lens. I tried to re-create the Cloverfield handheld look, by adding a camera zoom and some lens blur in post production. It's all nonsense...
