It wasn’t just the athletes at London 2012making an Olympian effort; as the official computing partner of the games, Acerprovided 13,500 desktop computers, 2,900 notebooks, 950 servers and 350 dedicated staff working behind the scenes to ensure that every score was recorded, every time was clocked and that every media outlet was served with the results in the blink of an eye.

Proving themselves on the biggest stage and on the grandest scale is one thing, but how do you compete with Mo Farah, Usain Bolt and co for the public’s attention?

Acer’s answer was to create a branded experience for visitors to the Olympic Park. Almost as important as the work behind the scenes, the pavilion needed to convey the brand, tap into the atmosphere associated with the games and showcase the best of Acer technology to the 2.4 million visitors to the Olympic Park in Stratford.

A huge success, the ‘Acer Journey’ experience managed to directly engage with thousands of visitors and feed into the excitement surrounding the Olympics.

Not simply a computer showroom, but an interactive experience, blending sporting achievements with technological greatness. Mesmerising visitors as they entered the experience was the striking ‘Journey Sphere’ – aka one of our new high res PufferSphere XLs. Pulsating with a stream of particles, the inflatable projection sphere was suspended in the middle of a ring of interactive tablets, with each particle charting the success of the players who surrounded it.

Forming a centrepiece, our digital projection sphere provided an absorbing scoreboard to track visitors’ progress as they played games on the Acer technology below. Programmed by interactive design specialists Open Platform, the competitive spirit of the Olympics was replicated using technology, allowing users and observers to easily view how they were performing compared to their rivals on the neighbouring tablet. A unique and engaging experience, Acer managed to exceed their expectations in promoting their presence at the greatest event on earth.
