The Illuminations Series

 Illuminations
Senior Art Show Series
Each of us face life challenges every single day, but it is how we pick up ourselves that make into resilient and wiser beings. No matter how unfortunate my personal circumstances became, the slightest glimmer of positivity kept me motivated to learn and evolve from them.

My senior art show series, Illuminations, showcases enlightening imagery of my family and friends to reveal the hidden positivity within the darkness of my world. Focusing on dramatic lighting and expressions, I share my collection of subtle yet significant memories to commemorate those who have shaped me into who I am today. Ultimately, the goal of Illuminations is to remind viewers to be thankful for who and what they have in their lives when dealing with future hardship.

Eternal Embrace, Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches, 2018.
Eternal Embrace encapsulates what I view as true love and partnership. My parents have been together since they were teenagers in 1981. These strong individuals have played an important role in my life and for so many others. They humbly share their wisdom to lift up and inspire anyone who comes their way. The piece shows a glimpse of a familiar but meaningful kiss that brightens their expressions and spirits from within. It symbolizes their lifelong dedication to build happiness together through thick and thin.

This piece was featured in the 12th Annual Collegiate Art Competition by the Buenaventura Art Association.
Jippy at Rest, Oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches, 2020.
Jippy at Rest pays homage to my first childhood companion. The scruffy terrier was my four-legged best friend since I was four years old. I always has a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. I capture Jippy’s heavenly gaze as he lays underneath his blankets at my home. It represents the peaceful life he lived on Earth with me and my family. Now, he is at peace forever. I am overwhelmingly grateful to have grown up with Jippy and the special memories I made with him by my side for almost fifteen years.
Happy Birthday, Alisha!, Oil on canvas, 15 x 30 inches, 2020.
Happy Birthday, Alisha! is dedicated to my closest hometown friends. From childhood to adulthood (left to right), Michelle, Ciera, Shushanna and Alisha have been some of the most supportive people in my life. Out of three siblings, I am the only daughter who dreamed of having a sister; with the girls, I gained four. Since we graduated high school in 2016, we split off into different colleges which made it a challenge to schedule time together. Nonetheless, we gathered for birthdays and holidays. As Alisha blows out the candles, the light shines on their joyful faces expressing their gratitude for the present and wish for a bright future. The work emphasizes the immense elation and sense of community from loyal friendship.
