Having previously brought the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Hardy Caprio, IAMDDB, Ms Dynamite, Stefflon Don, Octavian, Yxng Bane, Destruction Boyz and more to Portimao in its inaugural year, Afro Nation Festival already holds up a reputation for delivering some of the best acts across the genres of hip hop, dancehall, RnB, bashment and more.

Afro Nation is a festival meant to unite African diaspora in different locations around the globe, from Ghana to Portugal and Mexico. When I joined the team, they already had a couple of elements (see the first photo below) they wanted to be their branding so I had to think about how to properly juggle them in order to create a strong identity for the festival itself and its social platforms.
An iconic element of the Afro Nation branding is the pattern. Each year, the both the pattern and its colours are going to be different while maintaining the geometrical rhythm and vibrance that grow their roots into the visual expression of Afro Nation. The pattern is mainly used on the line-up posters (as a background, behind the brush) but it can also be found as a border on social media assets. I wasn't fond at all of the pattern they initially had so I came up with this one:
Like for any festival, Spotify playlists are a must. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to create playlists tailored on the geographical region of our attendees to support the culture and make self-isolation a little bit sweeter with the tunes they would have listened to at the live event. I chose to design these starting from bits of the 2020 pattern I came up with for the line-up posters.
