The project is about the series of dog comix stories I create for Hector Kitchen Instagram (the French brand of the custom healthy dog food which is delivered right to your door).
Each comix tells a short funny story of the regular life of dog and its owner in 3 slides and engages customers to share their similar funny stories with own pets in the comments.
I try to use the same illustration style and the corporate color palette in each comix. For sketching and coloring I use Adobe Illustrator and then I add texture in Photoshop.
Here is the short process of making Instacomix #1 about the puppy who likes sleeping in its owner's bed:
STEP 1 - SKETCHING THE COMPOSITION.
Keeping in mind that the comix is for Instagram I make all illustrations fit the square. I think about the diversity of camera angles for each illustration and about the scale so that the story looks dynamic. That is why the first scene is the regular camera angle and character visible full height, second one - from the knees so that the focus is on the puppy, the third one - top view and full view of the bed. Then I create the main character outfit and think of the scene elements, the text bubble location and unite it all together into the sketch.
STEP 2 - COLORING
I define the limited number of colors that will be used in all illustrations. Also it was important to use light-orange color for each background as it is the branded color and is widely used at Instagram feed of the brand.
STEP 3 - FINAL TOUCHES
I add texture to the illustrations, a little bit of sharpness adjust the colors a bit.
