Snow Clock: interactive media art (2019)

Snow Clock: A particle 7-segment display controlled by air pressure
We build the Snow Clock, the clock that displays time by collecting tiny Styrofoam balls
into 7-segment number shape.

Collector fans on the back side are collecting particles and 4 7-segment units behind the mesh match the digits of current time. Blower fans blow upward the particles and attached.

Mosquito net was used as Styrofoam filter at bottom. To cover small blower fans' power.

We build mechanically moving 7-segment digit modules to control air flow.

Photo of very first prototype. To prevent Styrofoam balls from sticking to the front window,
both Styrofoam balls and the window are coated with an antistatic component.

Photo of motion sensor. It is located on center and detects Up/Down/Left/Right movement.

The Snow Clock has dynamics and narratives like snowing scene that could be objet on the desk. And its functionalities could be controlled by mid-air gesture interactively. Gesture is combined into wind generating context.
And as you see, this project was done at nearly end of 2019.

Thank you for watching :)
