Triumph of Death - A Distant Mirror 1562-2020 - Breugel

TOD - Triumph of Death - My interpretation of the 1562 painting by Pieter Breugel the Elder. A distant mirror from that era to our current 'insane' world. Plagues, pandemic, conflict, depression (economic or psychological). I used two major different techniques or styles to interpret this painting. I post them both because I feel they have a different feeling. Let me know what you think, or even better, what emotion you feel. Which of both styles do you prefer?
A Distant Mirror - interpreting The Triumph of Death, the 1562 Masterpiece by Pieter Breugel the Elder. After seeing my post in my Instagram feed, my friend Freddie Allen commented: "the sadness is overwhelming at least for me... " I replied: "I'm sorry Freddie... I just hope that art, which language is symbolic, may help us to process the sadness. Art has always served that purpose, whether it's a Greek drama, Shakespeare's plays, etchings by Goya, art by Kara Walker, paintings by Bosch, Breugel or Munch, Picasso's Guernica, music by Beethoven or Stravinsky, poetry, writing,..." and I added: "Sometimes I also like to focus on the beauty of the world, however, when there's so much sadness and despair all around, I think it doesn't help singing John Lennon's 'Imagine' for the millionth time or paint rainbows, daisies and butterflies. Perhaps we need to get to the light through the darkness". -Lode Coen April 26, 2020
