Welcome to Shikoku

Shikoku is the fourth biggest island of Japan.
With a declining population of 4 million, 40% of which live in the capitals of its prefectures (Ehime, Kagawa, KôChi, Tokushima), it hosts one of the most important buddhist pilgrimages in the world.
When I prepared for my project ’88’ in 2015, I read all I could find about the geographIcal, historical and cultural aspects but one thing remained a mystery until my arrival: how the island looked like.
Truth be told, You would not use it to illustrate the ‘tradition and modernity’ cliché: big cities and deserted rural areas with charming temples next to abandoned supermarkets.  On the other hand, if you are looking for the ‘real Japan’, you will be ecstatic.
This series is an introduction to my documentary ’88’. Let me show you the main stage before unveiling the actors.
