SCHOOL PROJECT
class by Jesper Olsen, 2020, deadline 2 weeks

The brief was to make the visual identity for a local exhibition space, Kunsthal 6100. We were put in teams of 3, I worked with Simon and Marlene. After designing the visual identity, we had to make a design manual in order to 1: test the design and 2: make it possible for Kunsthal 6100 to use the design.

Kunsthal 6100 has two exhibitions a year, each 6 months of duration. In these 6 months Kunsthal 6100 aims to keep the exhibition relevant by hosting events to make the visitors rethink what they see. The word rethink or "Gentænk" in danish, was the fundament for our work.

Kunsthal 6100 houses many different activities, so we decided to create some sub brands in order to make it easier for visitors to understand what Kunsthal 6100 is, and what they have to offer.

I have been a part of everything I show on this page, either with the ideas or by executing the idea.
We kept Kunsthal 6100's original logo and created a logo for each sub brand with the same grid. The logos have dept and different angles depending on how you look at them, which represents Kunsthal 6100 very well.
In order to make a grid that would work across different medias,
we used the size of the logo as a ruler.
Example of the grid used on a poster
Each brand has its own logo and range of colours, the backgrounds are sections of the logo's silhouette. They are used for posters, adds and sociale media content.
Here are some of the posters we made. We wanted the viewer to really rethink!
That's why the text goes outside the border, some of it is turned upside down and some of it is outlined.
With the "ripped images" we wanted to give the design a DIY feel, because Kunsthal 6100  are very including, they don't want to be taken too seriously and they want to make you rethink.
We wanted to continue "rethinking" for the way finding, so we played with the shape of the logo
and the name Kunsthal 6100 to show the direction of the exhibition room.
We did this project while the Corona pandemic had our school closed, and the team work was actually really successful! We communicated through Skype and Messenger, and used tools such as Trello and Miro for planning.
