We created a set of gifs and illustrations for Airbnb China, exploring some key concepts like community and closeness, and how you can create a connection, even remotely.

Starting from the flexibility offered by safe check-in process, we designed expressive characters able to represent both individuality and community. In tracing the characters’ main features we went into more detail than our usual character design, allowing for a wider range of expressions.

We played with perspectives panning in and out on locally inspired scenery and individuals. Dynamic, colorful lines flowed into visual representations of the digital connection between hosts and guests, in the iconic Airbnb colour palette – with an illo twist.
