Unfolding Brussels: Colonial traces in the public space

UNFOLDING BRUSSELS

Public space is not a neutral space. This book has been made to explore a tragic phase of Belgian history - the colonisation of Congo - through some often neglected buildings and monuments part of Brussels’s topography. The process of discovery is metaphorically translated into the act of ripping off the folded pages of this book in order to access its hidden contents.
The aim of this project is not to contest, but rather to question and contextualize the presence of colonial-related monuments, buildings and streets in the city of Brussels.

In November 2019 the book was awarded with the honorable mention of the students category by Aiap Women in Design Award.
