The first confirmed case of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in December 2019, quickly spread around the world. This virus has become the largest infectious disease in human history, comparable to the Spanish flu, which infected about 500 million people around the world 100 years ago and caused tens of millions of deaths, and it is still spreading.This infection has already claimed more than 180,000 lives worldwide (as of April 23, 2020), and medical institutions are in danger of collapsing due to the ever-increasing number of hospitalizations. And with the blockade of cities and the cessation of economic activity, the biggest post-war recession has also come.
COVID-19 is a horrible infectious disease that can lead to severe illness and even death in some cases, and at the same time there are many asymptomatic patients who are infected and the infection can spread without their knowledge. The fear of this invisible infection has already left several countries in a bind. However, depending on what we do in the future, it is possible to minimize the spread of the virus. The creativity and design wisdom that we possess should be an effective means to do so. In order to reduce the number of people who feel sad because of this confusion, NOSIGNER President Tachikawa has voluntarily started a project.
2019年12月に最初の症例が確認された新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）は、瞬く間に世界中に広がり、およそ100年前に世界中で約5億人が感染し、数千万人の死者を出した「スペインかぜ」に匹敵し得る人類史上最大規模の感染症となり、いまなお感染が拡大しています。この感染症によってすでに全世界で18万人以上の命が失われ(2020年4月23日現在)、増え続ける入院患者によって医療機関は崩壊し、都市の封鎖、経済活動の停止によって、戦後最大の不況が訪れています。
COVID-19は、場合によっては重症化し、死に至るケースもある恐ろしい感染症であると同時に、無症状感染者も少なくなく、本人も知らぬ間に感染が広がってしまうことが大きな特徴です。この目に見えない感染症の恐怖はすでにいくつかの国を窮地に追い込んでいますが、これからの自分たちの行動次第で、その拡大を最小限に抑えることが可能です。私たちが持つクリエイティビティやデザインという知恵は、そのために有効なはず。悲しい思いをする人を一人でも減らすために、NOSIGNER代表の太刀川は自主的にプロジェクトを始めました。
On April 5, 2020, when a state of emergency could have been declared in Japan. We launched a collaborative editorial website, PANDAID, to help people survive the pandemic and encourage them to help. Like OLIVE, a wiki site set up by Tachikawa shortly after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 to gather useful knowledge in the event of a disaster, the co-editable website has attracted more than 100 volunteers with a variety of expertise.
Under the editorial policies of “Gather information where scientific facts have been presented.” “Achieve articles and designs that convey scientific information to the general public in an appealing way.” and “To enrich the content that ordinary people can practice by themselves,” this website gathers a wide range of knowledge and wisdom, from basic knowledge about infectious diseases and how to prevent them to know-how about maintaining physical strength and remote work, how to spend time at home, and grant information. In addition, while creating original infographics and other content as needed, we continue to send out content from PANDAID that is easy for people to understand intuitively.
非常事態宣言が出るか出ないかという中で揺れる２０２０年４月５日、パンデミックから命をまもるために、世界中で考えられた暮らしや習慣の変化を助ける知恵をまとめた共同編集ウェブサイト「PANDAID」を立ち上げ、協力を呼びかけました。2011年の東日本大震災の直後、太刀川によって立ち上げられた災害時に有効な知識を集めたWikiサイト「OLIVE」と同様に、有志たちが共同編集するこのサイトには、さまざまな専門性を持つ100名以上のボランティアが参加しています。
「科学的ファクトが示されている情報」「科学的情報が魅力的に伝わる記事とデザイン」「自分自身で実践できるコンテンツ」という編集方針のもと、感染症の基礎知識から予防法、体力の維持やリモートワークのノウハウ、自宅での過ごし方、助成金情報までさまざまな知識や知恵が集められ、必要に応じてインフォグラフィックなどを独自に制作しながら、一般の人たちが直感的に理解しやすいコンテンツを発信し続けています。
The logo identity, reminiscent of a road sign, conveys the wish to “STOP” and “RETURN” to the pandemic. It also shows that the unity of the people is essential to achieve this.
道路標識を思わせるアイデンティティには、パンデミックに対して「止まれ」「戻れ」という願いが込められており、同時に、その実現には人々の結束が欠かせないことを3本の矢になぞらえて示しています。
PANDAID introduces a face shield developed by NOSIGNER that can be made from an A4 clear file in a few tens of seconds. It is very inexpensive and practical, and the sheet can be downloaded for free. 世界中で使える感染症対策ウェブサイト
Updated daily by volunteers, PANDAID has become one of the most organized sites for new coronavirus-related information in Japan. And in Japan, where a state of emergency has been declared and the situation is becoming more serious, the value of the website is increasing by the day. The posters on the website explaining the importance of social distance to reduce the risk of droplet infection have been shared by more than 10,000 people on social networking services, and have become a movement for infectious disease control that fully demonstrates the power of design.
In order to make PANDAID available to people around the world, we are aiming to make the site available in 8 languages in the future. Until that day when we can see our loved ones again after overcoming one of the greatest trials in human history. We want our website to be the most comprehensible and well-designed infectious disease control website in the world.
有志の運営メンバーたちによるコンテンツが日々更新されているPANDAIDは、日本で最も新型コロナウイルス関連の情報が整理されたサイトのひとつとなり、非常事態宣言が発令され、状況が深刻化する日本においてその存在価値は日増しに高まっています。また、飛沫による感染リスクを下げるための「ソーシャルディスタンス」の重要性を伝えるために制作したポスターはSNS上で1万人以上にシェアされるなど、デザインの力が十分に発揮された感染症対策のムーブメントも生まれています。
PANDAIDは、今後8カ国語対応を目指しています。人類史上最大級の試練を乗り越え、大切な人たちとまた向かい合うことができる時、私たちが生きる世界がより良いものになっていることを信じて、世界で最もわかりやすくデザインされた「正しく・楽しい＝興味深い」感染症対策のウェブサイトを育てていきたいと考えています。
