One of the great artists at the turn of the twentieth century, Alphonse Mucha, became famous for his well-crafted admiration of the human female body and other natural, curvilinear forms. He explored this admiration through paintings and posters in which he stylistically iconized his subjects, likening everyday women to the status of goddesses or royalty. Through so doing, he inspired an entire generation and a major artistic movement.
Through an exploration of Mucha’s Art Nouveau stylings, I decided to pay homage to some of the creative women in my life who have inspired me artistically. I created a series of posters that likewise elevate each person’s visage to the status of admirable icon.
