Museum of Guildford

Guildford is a historically rich town in Surrey, England. Beginning as a Saxon Village with a small yet thriving population of a few hundred, it quickly grew over the years as a link to London from the South Coast. The towns vibrant history is honoured by its proud locals in the know, however still feels somewhat unavailable for the youth and new settlers in the town. With this project I aimed to create a full rebrand of Guildford's Museum, bringing it into the 21st century and modernising a dated Council-esque design.

Guildford is on a slightly slower path to modernising its town in comparison to others its size, with this project I aimed to create a dynamic branding system which represents how the town wants to be seen amongst its peers, while still respecting and keeping the towns history at the forefront.
The new logo for the Museum takes one of Guildford's most historic symbols of the town - The Guildhall Clock, an intricate, beautiful piece of design and reducing it to its simplest form of a circle and a square. Using these shapes as the building blocks for the identity, I was able to create a fluid and responsive design which allows for new variants for each exhibition.
