UN World Food Programme Executive Visits North Korea

American Defense International Chairman Van Hipp formerly served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the US Army. A regular guest on major news networks and a well-known author, he released The New Terrorism: How to Fight It and Defeat It in 2015, and he speaks on defense issues and international policy. In an opinion piece for Fox News published in May 2018, Van Hipp explored issues surrounding the United Nations World Food Programme Executive Director’s visit to North Korea ahead of a planned summit between President Trump and Kim Jong-un.

The UN World Food Programme has had a presence in North Korea for decades. The program has provided much-needed assistance to the Korean people following a severe famine that occurred in the 1990s as a result of droughts, floods, and harmful governmental processes. Each month, the program assists some of the 10 million North Koreans who are undernourished. The UN World Food Programme is also working proactively to help the country achieve food security and better nutrition.

On his trip to North Korea, the program’s Executive Director, David Beasley, spent two days in Pyongyang, where he met with senior government officials. He also visited World Food Programme sites in rural areas to evaluate operations and ensure the program’s effectiveness.
