All fired up again refers to the publication of the magazine Emigre All fired up, title that reminds to the image of a fire that from its 'spark' of 1983 broke out and fed until it arrived in 1993, the tenth year of activity: and still the fire burns.

Starting from the analysis of Emigre # 26, the project tries to analyze the various contents of the magazine by re-contextualizing them in a contemporary key through a series of small critical essays. The current social and political situation constantly leads us to ask ourselves questions about what is happening around us. The world is witnessing a cultural mutation that produces much confusion: it is unclear what is true or false, right or wrong. The feeling of a political distrust leads to different social reactions, which are expressed through manifestations, art and communication: consequently, the world of design is also involved. In art and design schools, there is a need to develop critical thinking behind the surface layer of form, but even in these environments, aesthetics are often categorized into 'styles' rather than 'communicative needs'. Even the area of design suffers from a general confusion and it no longer makes sense to speak of supporters of modernism or postmodernism: one must become aware of what the current ideology is, outside of the 'stylistic' codes.
Emigre's example is not taken up with the aim of enhancing its aesthetic choices, but with the intention of investigating the cultural aspects that pushed the work of Rudy VanderLans and Zuzana Licko to become iconic in the 80's and 90's; to understand which issues were being addressed and how they move away from today's thinking. First of all, like the name itself, the magazine addresses the figure of the emigrant (in French èmigrè) with the aim of enhancing the work of those who come from diverse cultural contexts, and today, in a global situation, all of us represent at least once to portray this profile.
Furthermore, the period of the digital revolution that Emigre is going through is an extremely exciting context for graphic designers, in which experimentation and tradition play two contrasting parts and open an important comparison and debate in search of what is right and what is wrong... a little like today. Therefore, with current concerns and new needs, this research is also a sign of hope for a fresh stimulating phase in the field of graphic design.

We thank Nina Paim, Corinne Giselle, Fabian Harb, Luciano Perondi, Sergio Polano and his wife Cecilia, for being available to listen to us and answer our questions. We thank Artemio Croatto for letting us consult Emigre # 26, All fired up.
