Brawler is a short story written by Lauren Groff, and recorded by the New Yorker. It follows the life of a teenage girl and explores themes of mental stability and self-harm. I wanted to keep that strange feeling of looking into someone else’s world and seeing the distortions that arise. The popsicle on the cover represents the soundness that the character gives off to protect herself, but the elements within the book slowly melt to mirror the main character’s dysfunctional life.
