INSPIRATION: RINGSTONES

Ringstone is the historic characteristic, almost defining objects of Mauryan-Sunga periods of Northern India, were possibly as many as 70 have been recorded from Punjab, eastward along the Ganges valley to Bihar. Few were also there in the Southern parts.Peninsular island is the only one known to have been found outside Indian subcontinent, thus providing clear evidence for ancient trades.

The function of Ringstones has never been clarified. Some suggested as jewelry molds remain likely explanation for the extraordinary level of carved details. Some told its the ear spool. Few of them found at Harappa & Mohenjo-daro are told to be the base, supporting pillars at city gate. But the structure, material, forms & carvings were almost same. Like, all are depicting some or other stories through pictorial representation. The elements in those stories are the animals, birds, celestial bodies & geometric patterns.
