"Mazad" - Electronic Land Auctioning System - was one of the first technical solutions that I designed and developed (with the help of a team of course - in this case Eng. Amjad Qutaifan was responsible for designing the backend database and the statistics screen), and it was considered one of the most innovative software packages at launch.

إعتمد نظام مزاد على خادم لقاعدة البيانات، و جهاز إدارة مركزي (بشاشتين، شاشة للمدير و شاشاة للحضور)، بالإضافة لجهاز لمتابعة إحصاءات المزاد، و عدد من الشاشات الإضافية (الرسم أدناه يوضح هذه الأجهزة. في وقت لاحق أضيفت أيضاً أجهزة عند الدخول لإدخال بيانات المزايدين).ـ

Mazad consisted of a database server, with an Operator machine (dual displays, one display for the operator and one for the bidders), in addition to a Monitor machine to monitor auction statistics, and a number of additional displays (the diagram below shows these components. Later kiosk-like machines were added to the reception to collect bidders information).

مكور في 2005، كان نظام مزاد منعطفاً مهماً في حياتي المهنية، إذ أتاح لي أن أفتح مخيلتي لاحتمالات تزاوج التقنيات المتعددة: كان مبنياً في فيجوال بيسك و يستخدم أدوب فلاش كواجهة إستخدام، و يخزن معلوماته في قاعدة بيانات منفصلة. كما كان لزاماُ علي أن أستحدث سير عمل متسارع لإحضار الخرائط المبنية على أوتوكاد إلى فلاش و تحديد معرفاتها و معلوماتها في البرنامج و قاعدة البيانات للتعامل معها.ـ

 

أستطيع أن أرى أنني استخدم بعض الدروس التي تعلمتها آن ذاك في العديد من المشاريع الجديدة.ـ

Created in 2005, Mazad was an important juncture in my career, as it allowed me to open my imagination to the multiple possibilities of marrying various technologies & techniques: It was built in Visual Basic, using Adobe Flash as an interface, and storing its data in a remore database. I was also forced to improvise an accelerated workflow for importing AutoCAD files into Flash and define its boundaries and metadata in the underlying application and database to be able to handle individual lots.

 

I can easily see that I'm still using some of the lessons learned way back then in many of my current projects.
