An Exploration Of Shapes and Letters
During my graphic design summer course at Parsons in NYC, one of the first assignments was to explore letters, and experiment with them to form interesting shapes. We tend to see letters as that, simple letters. Yet there is something far more interesting about them, their shape. They are illustrations in themselves, with interesting curves, lines and twists. Typefaces have beauty in themselves as well, they are unique expressions of the same common characters. For this project I limited my use of typefaces to the basic ones: Helvetica, Didot, Arial, and Futura. With this simple project, a newfound appreciation for letters and type was born.
