Confluence Exhibition Catalog

Confluence           « catalogue

Client:
This 64-page art catalogue profiled the work of 15 full time art and graphic design faculty from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in the Biennial exhibition, Confluence, at the Art Museum of South Texas.

Objective:
The exhibition’s title conveys the “flow” that occurs at various levels of the creative process. In speaking with the museum’s Curator of Exhibitions it was important that the catalogue expressed the flow of knowledge and variety of experience each artist engaged in with their work in conjunction with their teaching practice.

Process/Strategy:
In approaching this work as designer and illustrator, as well as exhibiting artist in Confluence, I wanted to make sure each artist’s work was respected and given equal weight in the catalogue. I developed a flexible grid system that could work with the varying dimensions of images. I chose to give special attention to the visual elements that would tie the catalogue together as the viewer flipped through the book, such as the flowing yellow line, a dynamic typographical treatment for each name, and the biographical information. With those elements repeated from spread to spread the artwork was then able to be treated as a surprise engaging the viewer in visual delight as they turned the page.

Final deliverables:
Cover and Catalogue Design, Illustration

This work has received three ADDY awards by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), Special Judges’ Best Read, District-Gold, and Region-Silver.
