"Non-place" project – Master of Graphic Arts

Master of Fine Arts, The Graphic Techniques diploma named "Non-place".

Project is based on "Non-place" theory introduced by the French anthropologist Marc Augé in 1992. Non-places are places of modernity, where people don't live in, stay lonely and anonymous. They are limited by non-places roles, conception of lacking time, outside orders and bans, which rule their brief social relations. Non-places don't build common references to a group, they aren't places to meet and identify with. Examples of non-places are highways, airports, supermarkets and tourist places.
I put together Marc Augé "Non-place" theory with my own experience from Greek journey in August 2019 to 4 tourist non-places: Samos (The Heraion), Athens (The Acropolis), Delphi, Delos. I wanted to create in viewers feeling of participation in non-places effect: by limited space to move, deconstruction of architectural pictures and multi layered view by my graphic notes and shadows of it, notes of people and situations during touristic journey.
In the centre of room is hanging a circle from 9 PET panels with printed on them drawings from Greek journey.
On 4 walls are sticking hand-printing in a transfer technique 4 pictures, made by analog camera in 4 tourist places in Greece: Samos (The Heraion), Athens (The Acropolis), Delphi, Delos.
Every picture (5 meters long, 3 meters high) consists of 120 transferred pieces (120 pieces of A3 printouts was sprayed by nitric acid, covered with black paint and transferred on 2 rolls of paper. Nitric acid makes that paint stuck only to places where is toner from printer machine). Hand-transferring of 1 wall took approximately 20 hours.
Samos, The Heraion.
Athens, The Acropolis.
Delphi, ancient sanctuary.
Delos, The Temple of Dionysos.
