Pioneering Equine Treatments Developed by Phillip Kapra

Dr. Phillip Kapraun, a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, has owned and operated his Harvard, Illinois-based equine practice since 1984. In his position at Phillip R. Kapraun, DVM, PC, he performs a variety of services, including the diagnosis of equine lameness through fluoroscope technology.

In addition to his fluoroscopy work, Dr. Kapraun has pioneered a number of techniques over the course of his career. For instance, he has been instrumental in the development of Cobroxin as a treatment for soft tissue healing in horses. He has effectively treated tendon, suspensory ligament, lateral collateral ligament, and cartilage injuries through his Cobroxin treatments.

Furthermore, the equine specialist has utilized bee venom as a treatment for navicular disease, a new alternative that is being studied at the University of Illinois. When treating navicular disease, bee venom serves to numb the impacted nerves, which reduces the pain experienced by the animal during the course of the healing process.
