In 1964, galvanized by its newly acquired independence, Zambia started a space program to send the first African on the moon, joining the United States and the Soviet Union in the space race. Only a few optimists supported Edward Makuka the project, the teacher in charge of presenting this ambitious program and raise the necessary funds.
