I've started to draw an write a "quarantine diary" since day 01 of confinement in France on my Instagram account. Here are the drawings and short texts.

"Quarantine, day # 01: . Storm under two skulls.
The night was very rough. Brains were about to explose.
We feel that we are living in a moment that we will remember all of our existence without being able to measure its impact.
Health crisis? Economic crisis ? What will be the consequences on my activity? What is the value of my work compared to that of caregivers or employees of food stores?
Difficult not to think about the day after tomorrow.
Impossible to stay in the present moment.
Where to spend the next few days? Leave the city ? Stay there? . . . Ps: I wore no underwear, but I preferred to avoid censorship of the Instagram algorithm 🧐"
"Day#02: Shadows
Even before the announcement of the government, feeling the rumor swelling of an impending confinement, we sought to withdraw to the countryside in order to get through this period in a more serene setting.
We had to decide quickly, define what is essential and what is superfluous in food, leisure, sport, books, clothing, etc ... You don't prepare uour kit of the perfect little confined as you prepare your suitcases to go on vacation.
The first night of quarantine was much quieter than the previous one.
In the morning of Day 02, a couple of birds dance in shadow puppets on the curtain of our room.
While France is at a standstill, the Earth keeps on rotating."

"day#03 :
.The spark.
We confined ourselves with a couple of friends, parents for just 3 weeks. The young father continues to go to work every day while we support the mother in her new role.
Slowly, we learn to understand this little spark of life that cries out like a lioness, sleeps like a stump and shows the most total indifference towards these uncertain hours that we are going through."
"Day#05 :
Happy coronanniversary.
Today, I celebrated my 1st coronanniversary. It's really good coronanniversaries.
As my friends with whom we are confined they could not buy everything they wanted because the stores they are closed except the supermarkets, I had: . Balloon paste that smells of the liquid that my mom puts on her nails to remove her varnish and that if you breathe in instead of blowing in the straw, your head is spinning. .Kinder eggs but most of them were figurines while I prefer the toys where we have to build with the manual. . A great apple cake. . Pez cherry (it's the best) and orange (it's not so good but when there is more than that, I eat them anyway) with a Bulbizar distributor. . A bottle of red wine. .
It was really fun my birthday.
Can't wait to celebrate my five ... Uh my thirty five years!"

"Day06 :
.Yoga.
After several days taking our marks in this house, taking an aperitif every night and eating raclette, we tell ourselves that if the confinement is prolonged, it will cost us a lot in jeans when we get out of here if we continue at this rate.
We are finally starting to find a rhythm and a lifestyle that are a little closer to those we had before quarantine. For my part, it starts with two sun salutations upon waking up to put everything back in working order for the day that starts. 🙏 "
"Day07 : The walk.
With the excitement of the 1st week I hadn't yet taken the time to get out of the garden.
The countryside is beautiful. The fields are being plowed and if the audacity of spring is already visible in meadows tinged with bright greens, it is tempered by the pink lights of the last sunsets of winter.
Assessment of the traces of life encountered: a dozen cows, a flock of birds and a lonely cardriver."
day08 : Restrictions
Faced with the lack of rigor of many of its fellow citizens and following the recommendations of the council of scientists in charge of the pandemic, the government limits and specifies a little more individual freedoms during confinement. Among other things, the practice of jogging is only authorized within a radius of 1km around your home.
"Day 11 : "the jokari invention" .
I have always wondered what could have pushed men to invent activities such as jokari or cup-and-ball game. After observing today one of my neighbors playing jokari alone in a meadow in front of an audience of bewildered cows, I now consider it highly probable that its inventor had just learned of the extension of the confinement period at the time when the idea came to him."

"Day#12 : "the treasure escapes" Since the start of confinement, I have felt a feeling of frustration linked to the impression that I have never had so much time for myself without being able to do everything I have in mind. A bit as if I was aware that I had a treasure in my hands and that I could not prevent it from flowing through my fingers."
"Day#16. Will we be up for the challenge?
The activity of Orly airport is mainly developed around internal flights in France and Europe.
An airport closing, even temporarily, is the exact opposite of current trends in the construction of new terminals, new runways, intensification of flights and trade not only in France but in the whole World, without any consideration for the impact on the environment.
Double-talk for a France which claims to have obtained the first world consensus in favor of a fight against global warming and at the same time expands its airports.
The speed at which the virus has spread, the almost generalized and instantaneous cease of the flow chains on the planet (financial, human, materials, medicines, ...) the synchronized reduction of pollution in the quarantine areas, the return of animals to places inhabited by humans and the scale of the upcoming financial crisis have revealed the fragility and the interconnection of our ultra-liberal economies on one hand, and the magnitude of the impact of human activity on the planet on the other hand.
But this epidemic is also seen by many as a great opportunity to review our needs and our modes of consumption, travel, food, to rethink our systems in order to move towards fairer and more resilient economies. Will we be able to question ourselves? Will we be up for the challenge or will we go back to the situation as it was before this new crisis?"

"Day#22 : discover your hidden skill.
In the first days of confinement, I told myself that this period where everyone would have time for himslef would probably see the emergence of new Mozart, Picasso or Steve Jobs. I must admit that I did not anticipate that she would see the emergence of micro table tennis champions. A couple of friends proved to me that I was wrong."

"Day# 28: the overview effect.
I often draw with music or a podcast in my ears. This drawing was inspired by a podcast I've been listening about the repair mission of the Hubble telescope in 1999 by Jean François Clairvoy, one of the French astronauts. He talks about the "overview effect" or the "pale blue dot" that people who go into space feel. The feeling that the earth is a tiny ball floating in the vastness of space and that it will survive the human species in billions of years. I find that it puts a lot of things into perspective on the importance of a human existence or the dramas we are going through and on the relevance of spending the little time that is offered to us to make wars or to strive to destroy the living on earth."

"Day#37 the groundhog day"
Time has been expanding for a few days ... I have a bit of the feeling of being stuck in a time loop where each day is identical to the previous one, like Bill Murray in "the groundhog day" "

"Day #51: I ride the tiger.
As May 11 is approaching quickly and we are finally seing the end of this quarantine tunnel in France, our dear president has organized a video conference with world cutlture officials in order to know what will be the impact of this nasty virus on the French cultural exception. Sleeves rolled up, he urges us to ride the tiger and invokes Robinson Crusoe by advising us to go get ham and cheese in the hold ...
Unfortunately, I don't know what the next few months will have in store for us, but I can see how much culture in the broadest sense has allowed me to go through this period in a more gentle way. With such advice, I feel fully reassured and confident for the rest of the adventure."
