Mercia Grant's profile

Priests of the Sacred Heart - Global Missionaries

A dedicated philanthropist, Mercia Grant has spent the last 7 years raising awareness and funding research for children with sudden unexplained death in childhood (SUDC) following the death of her granddaughter, Lily, just before her second birthday. Mercia Grant also contributes to groups such as the Priests of the Sacred Heart.

Officially titled Sacerdotum Corde Jesu (SCJ), the order known by the English name of the Priests of the Sacred Heart dates back to 1878, when Venerable Leo John Dehon created the religious community to help build the kingdom of God and bring Christ's love to others. Today, the SCJs focus particularly on serving the poor in rural and urban parishes across the USA. However, they also undertake missions around the world.

At their mission in South Africa, the SCJs serve as pastors, offering the sacraments to the poorest people living in many isolated areas. They also provide assistance to children of those who have died of disease, as well as individuals in hospice with HIV/AIDS. The order has also received many natives from the region, such as Bishop Zolile Mpambani, into its ranks.

The other missions run by the SCJs include locations in the Congo, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. For more details about these missions or to make a donation to support the order's service to the poor, visit https://poshusa.org/.
