THE EQUATION OF PERSONAL HAPPINESS

At the beginning of my higher education, I was under a lot of social-economic pressure coming from such an undeveloped country. Everyone that I have ever encountered and loved was telling me that my purpose is in numbers and well-paid jobs. I won’t lie, I was good at math, somehow it made sense to me. It was all simple, right or wrong, and nothing in between. But no matter all the knowledge in the world and all the talent in knowing how to put numbers where they belong; I could never find where I belonged in this simple world. My character was too complex, and I was infinitely strange to myself. There were too many energies colliding, too many thoughts, too many feelings. I knew the beauty of math, but, somehow, that wasn’t the beauty I was looking for.

And then I found art.

I realized that if I intuitively calculate spaces between objects and words while uniting emotions and aesthetics to that, I can perform an equation that has no right or wrong answer. They together create a visual form, but what it equals is solely based on those who look for the answer.

This particular work is called “Equation of Personal Happiness.” It examines my personal feelings of the already mentioned equation. Since this is created for my BFA show, I wanted to fully express who I am as an artist at this particular period of time - in the present based on all the emotions and experiences in the past that made me who I am as a soul. Some of you may find it unconventional, some will laugh, some will identify, but what I truly wish is for you to feel. Because at some point I felt it all.
