How my time at Salford Business school has prepared me

I have always had a passion for fusing creativity and business. Having studied film from all angles and then brand strategy – I thrive off of the concept of organised creative chaos. The reason for this is that I believe that you cannot be successful, in the creative field, without one or the other. Creative expression with no context or strategy holding it together is just that – expression – and strategy without a little creativity is well, boring.

Creativity is not something that can be taught, rather it can be worked on and improved. Graphic designers, Photographers, copywriters and editors all have a creative spark that is lit by their specific roles and responsibilities. Brand strategists, digital marketers and content strategists have wonderful ideas and can put together the most logical spreadsheet but without the creative team, their ideas would not be able to come to life.

At Salford Business school, the digital business master’s program helps you to bring some organisation to the creative chaos in Industry. This is why I believe that this course provides a well programmed and beautiful framework to prepare me for a career as a Creative Director. The program which encompasses subjects from every aspect of digital business encourages critical thinking while leaving the future open and bright. There are components of traditional business contrasted with the modern digital age as well as social media and search engine marketing – something that every creative needs to be skilled in in order to be noticed.

Although the obvious choice would be to use this course to launch a career in digital marketing, I believe that using it to establish myself as a thought leader in the creative sphere gives me an unexpected edge. Owning the skills taught in this program, allow me to have a deeper understanding of the world around me and within industry.

I am excited to bring the skills, lessons and experiences from Salford Business school into the South African creative sphere and wholeheartedly believe that it will assist me in setting up and paving my way forward as a proudly South African creative.
