A nonprofit organization dedicated to child advocacy, Safe and Sound focuses its efforts on preventing the abuse of children. Recognizing the importance of the community in ensuring children's safety, the organization encourages everyone to work together to identify and stop the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC).

Despite its hope of preventing such abuse from occurring, Safe and Sound also realizes that parents and other caregivers need to be prepared by knowing the symptoms of CSEC. Youth often fall prey to such exploitation through the offer of something valuable to them.

Parents can watch for signs, such as their children having a second cell phone or unexplained money, acting secretively and giving conflicting answers about their behaviors, and having an older boyfriend/girlfriend or spending time with older people. Youth experiencing exploitation may also show behavioral or mood changes and frequently skip school.
