Meditation Community App / User Interface Design

The following image screenshots (sized for an iphone5) are concept designs for an app community built around the daily practice of meditation. The basic concept is to combine a meditation timer with the accountability offered by a network of co-practitioners. I have ordered the designs chronologically, to demonstrate how the idea has developed over time.

The design will continue to evolve as insights and feedback pour in.

Concept 2

The thinking behind this concept was to keep a 'measurement device' tool central to the user experience throughout the app.

Concept 3

Seeking to simplify from concept two, a flatter design was in order. Introduced into the meditation start screen, is the visualization of where the user is, in the context of a 40 day mantra revolution. This day of the mantra is 'in orbit' around the start button.

Natures very own 'Golden Ratio' was brought in to heavily influence the design layout.

Concept 4

Although at this point, there was a healthy degree of satisfaction with the design, I opted to make a push to simplify further. I felt the need to show further restraint in the color pallete. What could I leave out? How could the UI be more effective in encouraging the user to meditate consistently?

The simplified 'Revo' start screen. Instead of a start button, the word was changed to 'Revo', to remind the user/ practitioner that they were revolving around a particular mantra for 40 days. A simple touch anywhere on the screen brings up the control options, which not intended to be frequently changed. The only butter needed here is the one to start your med!
