STORYTILES
“Storytiles” is a collection of handmade products that provide information for the visitors. Each cube has the essential data you need to know in order to feel comfortable in the area you are visiting: culture, history, language, food, places, and locations.
The product comes with an app, by scanning the artifact’s faces, you will obtain information about the place. Each of the designs is inspired by the ancient tiles found at the official UNESCO sites in Portugal.
When we travel, we want to learn more about the culture, so we immerse ourselves in local information and take a part of it with us. By creating a link between artisanal production and mobile device technology, this product also promotes the local market.
The connection to the recommended places to visit in Tomar, Coimbra, Batalha, and Alcobaça is generated by a fictitious link between the pieces, which shows how the different tiles create a unique design.

The International Design Workshop (IDW) of the Master of Arts in Design at Zurich University of the Arts is part of the Master’s Minor studies; it offers students the opportunity to explore a current topic in an interdisciplinary and intercultural environment and be confronted with new questions and approaches. The Master programme encourages students to transfer the gained knowledge into their own practice; thus, unfold novel perspectives and develop an understanding of other methods and realities. The workshop takes place every year abroad and happens in collaboration with international practitioners and/or institutions.
