DIGITIZING BAMBOO
Material Property Study and Product Development.
A material known for it's versatility has a lot to be explored.
In this course we decoded properties of bamboo as a material and combined it with digital components of electronic devices for a greener user experience and enhancement of tribal crafts.
Few material properties of bamboo that interested me were:
Heat bending
possibilities of smooth finishes.
Initial experiments with heat bending Bamboo strips and form observation.
The forms that were obtained using inter nodal bamboo strips (minimal wastage of material) was seen to be similar to Bluetooth headphones/earphones.

After prototyping the initial size and thickness was reduced to increase comfort and decrease weight and material usage.
Final working product.

This product was made by a bamboo craftsman with given instructions and blueprints, this could open opportunities for many tribes that practice the skill of handcrafted bamboo products.
