In Beijing, old neighbourhoods are rapidly being destroyed to make way for new urban developments. As their decaying walls have endured countless seasons, thousands of hands from children, construction workers, lovers or drunken nighthawks have collectively polished and engraved stories on their surfaces. These walls are the ephemeral expression of life in some of the oldest streets in the world, captured here before they disappear forever.
