Lagos was our choice as the basecamp of our journey in the Algarve region of Portugal.
It is situated on the beautiful Western Algarve, very close to the best beaches of this coastline of dramatic natural scenery.
The Coastline
Soaring cliffs of limestone eroded by waves and wind, sea caves, golden beaches and a turquoise sea make the Lagos coast of the most incredible coastline of the entire region. In the winter, is quite easy be the only one on the beach, especially at the sunrise.
Probably the most iconic place of Lagos. The Atlantic Ocean has moulded grottos, stone arches and sea caves into colourful golden cliffs, probably the best feature of the Algarve. On the extreme summit of this promontory there is a lighthouse from which you can explore the entire area.
Lagos is a characterful city with an historical heritage and is one of the Algarve’s most popular holiday destinations. The city is very quiete and beautiful, it often remindes Greece with all its white houses and buildings and the narrow streets. I wish we had more time to explore it better.
Sunrise is the best time to shoot in Lagos due to its position. The sun rises from the Ocean making the cliffs glow with a strong golden light.
From our hostel we took just 5 minutes to reach the main beaches, so we headed to the more distance places at sunset while we stayed in Lagos for the morning.
