Sydow's fifth film was ˝The Seventh Seal˝ (first film with Bergman), in which von Sydow played Antonius Block, a knight returning from the Crusades to a plague-stricken Sweden. The scene of his character playing a game of chess with Death has come to be an iconic moment of the cinema.
