For my chair, I examined my struggle with identity from forces of adversity. I was also influenced by the psychedelic concept of ego-death, or the loss of subjective self-identity. I used constriction as a metaphor for feeling trapped and the release of that constriction as a metaphor for liberation. As the form transitions, so do the colors of the chair, symbolizing an evolution of self.

I felt stuck for much of my 20s; trapped in undesirable situations by society,
my own culture, and myself. This chair is representative of finding a way out of those constrictions, transitioning into an open form. The transparent material, a single plane of ombre glass, expemplifies the immateriality: how we are shaped from our past despite the hardships endured. The chair escapes from a dark and constricted state into a lighter and open form, signifying the journey from feeling captive to letting go.
