ADJUSTABLE FLOOR LAMP
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN WORKSHOP
I had the opportunity to participate in a week-long workshop led by a well-known french designer, Rémi Bouhaniche. It was all about experimenting. The theme was lightness and heaviness. The balance or tension between these two ‘poles’ is an important aspect of life. Does questioning weight and the lightness mean establishing a relation between the minimum and the maximum? Working on these two notions would help us explore both our aesthetic sensibility and technical knowledge through an intuitive process of creation.
We had to work in teams. With my teammate we choose to express lightness. Firstly, we had to create metaphoric installations. Based on these artworks and its features like the joints and the possibility of mobility, we made a functional piece which became an adjustable floor lamp that expresses lightness as you can change the direction of light with a light touch. The object was made of waste pine and the luminaire was made of transparent paper with LEDs in it.
