Visual identity Kloesewier

Kloesewier is a hostel located in the beautiful old primary school in De Veenhoop, Friesland, The Netherlands. 🇳🇱 After almost a 100 years, the primary school had to be closed due to the declining number of students.
After a couple of years of vacancy, the building has been transformed into a hostel. In addition to staying overnight, Kloesewier also offers walking- and kayak tours through the neighboring nature reserves. 🚣‍♂️🍃
In the question for a visual identity it was therefore important that the school elements should come back, but also what you can do at Kloesewier. The ‘Aap, Noot, Mies’ was used as the starting point. 👨‍🏫
Every Dutch person knows or recognises the letter board from their school time. Because the school has undergone a transformation to modern times, the style is based on the former ‘Aap, Noot, Mies’ and has been transformed to the modern time. The design system is based on the old system - below space for text, above for image - and a new illustration style has been developed. In addition, it has changed to ‘Slaap, Boot, Fries’ (Sleep, Boat, Frisian). You can – of course – spend the night here, explore the water and discover the Frisian nature.
