My Dad had a secret: he could no longer look after himself or his home. Visitors were confined to his lounge so we were oblivious to the chaos hidden behind closed doors. His health deteriorated from a stroke and our experience of subsequent rapid vascular dementia, (I say our and not his - thankfully he has been oblivious to his present) has been utterly devastating.
