Aerials of Iceland

Aerials of Iceland
by Mikkel Beiter
The following collection of images consists of 20 different aerial captures from above Iceland. The land of fire and ice! All images have been shot from a Cessna airplane during the summer of 2019. Iceland is not just beautiful from the ground, you will see a completely different side of Iceland from the air which is just as beautiful!
Aerial
Aerial capture taken during a flight above the Icelandic highlands. Iceland is often described as a place that looks like another planet, I must admit that there’s some truth to this saying!
Arctic Veins II
The cold arctic veins of Iceland. An abstract aerial capture from summer 2019! The melt water deltas creates some mesmerising patterns on the surface of Iceland. The beauty from above!
A Birds View
An aerial capture of 5 Whooper swans captured along the South coast of Iceland. The arial approach creates some amazing abstract captures off the surroundings.
Painted Mountains
This is a sight I'll remember for many years! Never have I seen so many different colors in a mountain range before. Each valley and mountain range in the Icelandic highlands will reveal something new, every time! I captured this beautiful photo during a scenic flight above the South coast and the highlands. It's remarkable what you can get from the air!
Blazing Veins
The many faces of Iceland! The melt river deltas can have many nuances, not only crystal blue! Take this photo as an example - it looks like the blazing veins of Iceland! The phrase about Iceland being the land of ice and fire fits perfectly! Going into the air with a plane can really reward you with some stunningly beautiful abstract photos!

Colors of Earth
Soft golden light painted the beautiful mountains in the Icelandic highlands during a scenic flight back in 2019. The aerial approach to landscape photography is quite intimate and interesting at the same time. I instantly fell in love with aerial photography after this flight. The landscape was utterly beautiful from above and the soft light made everything alive! This capture is from the area of Landmannalaugar in the Icelandic highlands.
The art of Earth
If someone ever asked me to mention who I think is the best artist I would definitely say Planet Earth! It's remarkable how beautiful our planet is, gorgeous landscapes can be found everywhere whether it's a combination of colors or abstract patterns.
Iceland from Above
My jaw dropped when the small plane turned away from the South coast with its beautiful river deltas and into the highlands. Epic mountains rose in front of us, many with snow on top! Such an incredible sight
Icelandic Veins
Pure aerial abstract gold from Iceland! Flying above Iceland is like watching abstract art in massive scale. These glacier rivers transport melt water coming from the Icelandic glaciers out to the ocean, incredible and beautiful but also a reminder of how big of an impact the rising temperatures have and which consequences it might have! It would be devastating to see another glacier melt away in Iceland but it looks like we are moving in that direction unfortunately.
Icelandic Abstracts
Soil surrounded by water from the Icelandic mountains. A typical sight at the river deltas! These scattered soil islands creates some remarkable and beautiful patterns in the river water.
Icelandic River Delta
Icelandic River DeltaIcelandic River DeltaIceland is clearly something else from the air! Huge amounts of abstract textures all over the place. We were lucky to have the gorgeous light from the golden hour during the last part of the flight, it really made the landscape alive!

Isolated
The perfect getaway place! A small Icelandic island and a lonely cabin - a pure dream! This island is the 3rd biggest of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago and it’s uninhabited. The lonely cabin is build for hunting parties, the place contains a large colony of seabirds.
We did a quick circle around the small island during our scenic flight last summer! The light was perfect, just a gorgeous sight.
The Traveller
Water has the ability to travel far and beyond! This is an aerial abstract capture of the glacier water travelling towards the ocean in Iceland. It’s remarkable how the water can create such beautiful patterns!
The green shores of Iceland I
Iceland is not just a cold and harsh place! During the summer the country turns into a lush of green colors. It’s quite beautiful to see these colours from above! This is a shot from the coastal area on the South coast of Iceland.

Landmannalaugar Range
Iceland never ceases to amaze me! My 4th visit to this gorgeous country! I’ve never experienced Iceland during summer before and it definitely didn’t disappoint! To try something new my friend Kai and I hooked up with a world-class Icelandic pilot and what a ride we had! Fantastic to see the country from above at golden hour! During the flight, we flew above the beautiful area of Landmannalaugar which is easily recognizable because of its iconic color palette in the mountains!
Valley of Light
Epic scenery from above the Icelandic highlands. The warm evening light turned this valley into a pure gold vein! Flying above Iceland is one of the most epic things I've done so far and I'm sure it's not the last time. I captured this photo during my trip back in the summer of 2019, this was also my first summer visit. Amazing to experience this place with warm and vivid colors compared to the cold and icy during winter.
The image consists of two individual captures shot handheld from a small Cessna aircraft. The two captures were merged into a panorama in the post-process.
Mountainous
The abstract aerial beauty of the Icelandic highlands. The first time visiting this amazing country during the Summer months and now I don't know if I like the Summer or Winter most!
For this trip, I had planned a scenic flight together with my travel partner Kai. We roamed around and above the highlands for a couple of hours getting a lot of amazing photos, especially abstracts just like this one! A closeup of the mountains in the highlands.
