Beetles and Bugs
and Vans... Oh My!

The job was to create three unique stickers using Adobe Illustrator. The theme of my stickers are centered around well-known Volkswagen cars. I took elements from the real life cars and made them into a cartoon, vectorized version. The crooked lines and corners give the stickers a playful feel. My final stickers will be easily recognizable to the real life cars through the styling of the car body.
Process
Determining a subject for my stickers came very easy. I wanted the theme to be something that people would actually purchase. My husband used to have an old Volkswagen Beetle. I always loved the look and feel that the car gave me. It was very fun and vintage. I knew that was what I wanted to base my stickers off. I decided to create three Volkswagen cars.
Once I was able to narrow down my favorite designs, I went to Adobe Illustrator to begin my digital sketches. Creating the cars came fairly easy. I scanned my sketches onto my computer and was able to trace and reference my drawings quite easily.
After receiving feedback from other designers concerning the angles and cartoon-like design I desired, I was able to implement their feedback into my work. I changed the outline colors to darker hues of the object as well as exaggerated the angles of different lines on the cars.
Final Stickers
My final stickers came out better than I could have imagined. The designs are easily recognizable to the real life cars but have a light feel because of the skewed angles and rounded edges. They have a very cartoon-like feel while also keeping the old-school look of the original cars. This was one of my favorite projects. Learning to turn real life objects into stickers is a skill I am glad I was able to improve.
